About Us

Our company

Officially founded in 1944, Bank Farm Limited was originally made up of a collection of farms that were separated over Fenland.

Originally a wetland area inland from the Wash; ‘The Fens’ was regarded by some as being wild. It was first drained during the 17th Century, following the English Civil War. Dykes and canals were dug between the river Witham to the north that runs through Boston, the Welland through Spalding, the Nene through Wisbech and the Great Ouse through Kings Lynn in the south.

Being a predominantly marshland area with some islands and raised ground, meant that this reclaimed land was incredibly fertile. There were three main soil types; silt, clay and peat.

Each farm had it’s own Foreman and workforce, storage and some livestock. The farms and their workforces were eventually amalgamated. Livestock operations involving pigs, bullocks and chickens were eventually phased out towards the beginning of the 1990’s.

Many pioneering farming techniques first witnessed abroad during the 1960’s and 1970’s, predominantly in Holland due to it’s similar topography, offered distinct advantages over traditional local farming techniques and were subsequently implemented on the farms.

Bank Farm Limited is proud to have been growing mustard for Colmans since 1880.
